It states that the members of our tribes are out there, waiting to be discovered one by one. I was reminded of this article as I attended two recent SBC events. I believe I have found my tribe!
First, our Annual Meeting and Dinner in February was a delightful evening of camaraderie, sharing, and mutual love of reading. As I looked out at the decorated tables, the Chapters coming together, and the members interacting, I thought about how lucky we all are to have come together in this wonderful place.
When I first arrived in Solivita ten years ago, I just wanted to join a book club, as I had never had the spare time to do so before. Well, little did I know that I would become part of a fantastic circle of people, some 200+ strong, who love to read and talk about books.
The second event that brought home to idea of finding my tribe was our Read-In to celebrate National Reading Month. On March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’s birthday, 40 SBC members and Solivita residents gathered on the lawn next to the Ballroom to read, discuss books and just enjoy each other. What a great way to kick off the month.
We also have groups of volunteers going to Bethune Academy this month to read to the children in their classrooms. I am so looking forward to sharing my love of reading with these little ones. Nothing warms my heart like the sight of a child enthralled by a book.
Let me leave you with a final thought. The Solivita Book Circle is dedicated to providing reading and educational opportunities for its members. We are a tribe of readers who love words and the power they hold. It is my sincere pleasure to be a part of this tribe!
